Shaping a world is one kind of creating and a story is another. Sitting down in front of a blank canvas is the third — and it's built in: free drawing, step-by-step lessons, paint-by-color pictures, and a canvas the family can share. All of it free, on every plan.
A blank canvas in the Create tab and a real toolbox to fill it: brushes, colors, stroke widths, an eraser, a paint bucket, stamps, and undo for when it goes sideways. Finger or stylus. When your child saves, the app calls it a Masterpiece — because at six, it is.
Drawing can earn Kudo Coins, but not for a scribble. A drawing has to take real time before it’s worth anything; save too fast and your child gets a nudge instead — keep drawing a little longer to earn coins. You set that minimum, you set what a drawing is worth, and you set how many drawings a day can earn. Set the value to zero and drawing goes back to being something they do purely because they want to.
Short lessons that walk your child through a picture one step at a time, spoken aloud, until something they actually recognize is looking back at them. The brush and color switch to whatever the step calls for, so nobody loses the thread hunting through a toolbar. And Next stays disabled until they’ve drawn something — the lesson will not let them tap through to a finished picture they didn’t make.
There are three levels of help, and the child is the one who picks:
The guide sits under their canvas and they draw right over the top of it.
The guide sits beside the canvas. They look at it, then draw it themselves.
Step thumbnails only. Nothing on the canvas but their own lines.
KudoKids starts them at the level that suits their age, then gets out of the way. A five-year-old who wants to try it without the guide can. An older child having a rough day can put the tracing guide back. Finishing a lesson for the first time earns coins; drawing it again doesn’t earn again — repeats are for the drawing, not the payout.
The paint-by-number idea, and in the app it’s simply called Color. Line art divided into regions, each with a small number matched to a numbered swatch. Tap a color, tap a region, and the picture comes out from under the numbers. A counter shows how much is filled and how much is left, it saves as they go, and the last region sets off a celebration.
Younger children are offered the simpler pictures. There’s no clock on this one — finishing is the thing that earns the coins. And tapping the Free color pill turns the numbering off entirely: same line art, their palette, their choices.
Inside Free Draw, your child can pull someone in the family onto the canvas. A “Join & Draw!” card lands on their device, and from there the two of them are drawing the same picture at the same time — a parent at the kitchen table and a kid upstairs, or two siblings on two tablets.
They can draw on the same canvas with their family, and only their family. That isn’t a preference someone has to remember to set: the rule lives in the app’s database, not in a setting anyone can flip, and display names never travel between devices. There’s no second switch to manage either — Draw Together comes and goes with drawing itself.
Drawing lives in Settings → Drawing & Art, and it starts turned on. From there you set what a drawing is worth in coins, the daily cap on how many drawings earn, and the minimum time a drawing has to take before it counts at all. Draw Together rides the same switch, so there’s nothing separate to hunt for.
